Do You Suffer From Seasonal Allergies, Asthma or Eczema?

DLavender Essential Oilo you suffer from seasonal allergies?  Well, I don’t but my 7 year old son does…and does he suffer!  He’s had seasonal allergies since the age of 3.  From April through May he is miserable.  He has a May birthday so every picture I have of him on his birthday he looks like Rocky Balboa with the puffy eyes.

His symptoms include coughing, sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes and difficulty breathing.  Plus, he also would get eczema on the back of his knees.  Each year I had no choice but to give him a plethora of allergy medicines from Benadryl, to Claritin, to Xoponex to steroid inhalers.  I could not find a alternative treatment that helped..until I discovered Young Living Essential Oils.  Then the relief finally began….thank goodness.

Therapeutic grade Lavender acts as a natural antihistamine, and when combined with Ningxia Red, Young Living’s superfruit supplement infused with lemon and orange essential oils, allergies beware!   In RCaddition to the Lavender and Ningxia Red I added two powerful essential oil blends for his asthma like symptoms...Breathe Again Roll-On and RC…both packed with Eucalyptus oils and others to clear the lungs and sinuses.  And of course I could not forget Life 5  – a high potency probiotic that promotes healthy immune function – and what are allergies – and immune system response.  So why not build up the immune system as much as we can, right?  Right!    And for the eczema…lavender, lavender and more lavender.  Ingesting it with the Ningxia Red and also applying it topically with an all natural organic moisturizer helped tremendously along with an amazing essential oil blend called Gentle Baby.

Life 5Last allergy season my son did  not miss one day of school or baseball practice/games and there were no trips to the pediatrician’s office, when in the past that all happened.

So if you suffer from seasonal allergies or asthma feel free to contact me and I can start you on the road to being allergy free!

My Natural Remedy For Coughs

Someone sent me this e-mail today.  It talks about a great remedy for coughs.  I’ve seen it many times before as it has been circulating for years on the internet.  This is what it said:

VICKS VapoRub – INTERESTING

During a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within 20 Minutes you can ‘taste’ it.

Some of us have used Vicks VapoRub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I’ve never heard of this. And don’t laugh, it works 100% of the time, although the scientists who discovered it aren’t sure why.

To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks VapoRub generously on the soles of your feet, cover with socks, and the heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely Soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good, due to the chemicals in them This method of using Vicks VapoRub on the soles of the feet was found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bed time. In addition it seems to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.

My wife tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes. So she went from; every few seconds uncontrollable coughing, she slept cough-free for hours every night she used it.

If you have grandchildren, pass this on.
If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be amazed at how it works.

DON’T SHUN THIS ONE.. TRY IT THE NEXT
TIME YOU GET A BAD COLD.
THE ONLY THING YOU CAN LOSE IS YOUR COUGH..

Now, the only part of this that I agree with is that the soles of the feet can absorb oils.  The feet have the most pores on the body and they are very large so essential oils can easily penetrate the skin and absorb into the bloodstream fairly quickly. It is one of the best ways to use essential oils, especially on babies and young children.

The problem is that Vicks contains petrolatum which is a by-product from the production of oil. It can’t be absorbed into the skin and can clog pores.  So, how can it get into the bloodstream to help get rid of the cough?  On top of that, it’s a chemical and I choose not to put potentially harmful chemicals into my body or anyone else in my family, especially my children.

The great thing is that there are many natural remedies for coughs.  I choose to use essential oils. And ironically Vicks for children contains essential oils like Eucalyptus and Lavender.  But, I don’t know that they are pure therapeutic grade, they could simply be perfume-grade, which will have no effect on the cough anyway. On the plus side, the fact that this company chooses to put essential oils in their products shows that maybe there is some truth to this “voodoo” that I often speak about…LOL!

So, instead here is what I suggest.  My favorite natural remedy for coughs is Eucalyptus Radiata, which is a respiratory stimulant.  Diluted in a carrier oil and massaged into the chest or of course on the soles of the feet,  Eucalyptus can work almost instantly to relieve a cough and chest congestion.  Simply diffuse it into the air at night as you sleep also.   Another top choice of mine is RC essential oil blend.  RC is combines four types of Eucalyptus oils with peppermint, spruce, cypress and other pure essential oils.  The properties of these oils are extremely effective against bronchitis, respiratory congestion and pneumonia.

Many of the tree oils such as spruce, 4 types of firs, 6 types of Eucalyptus and myrrh are all incredibly beneficial natural remedies for coughs, and I can’t leave out peppermint either.  So, with all these choices why would anyone use chemicals?  Beats me.  I’ll stick to my essential oils because I know that they are proven safe and effective for my entire family.

How to Ease Night Terrors in Children

When my son was about a year and a half old he began suffering from night terrors.  You know, blood curdling scream in the middle of the night followed by intense crying that seems to last forever.  Yes, well our family endured this for nights on end.

You see, being the “essential oil mom” I was using all the sleep oils I could on my son.  Nothing was working.  I tried single oils,  essential oil blends, different combinations of  so many different oils.  Why was nothin g helping?  I was of course very frustrated.  I was almost resigned to the fact that we would simply have to endure it until he outgrew it…which could’ve been months.  But I certainly was not going to let that happen.  I knew that there had to be an oil out there that would help.  I was determined to find it which oils could help ease night terrors in children..especially my own!

So, I sat down at my computer and began to research.  And low and behold….I found my problem.  As it turns out, I was treating the wrong thing.  Instead of trying to treat the physical sleep issues,  I had to start treating the mental/emotional problems that can cause night terrors in children. I found a wonderful essential oil blend that  was said to help get rid of night terrors in children.  This incredible oil that helped keep me sane was called Joy.  Just the name helped me realized that this was what I had been looking for.    Joy is a blend of ten uplifting oils that create a magnetic energy to bring happiness to your heart.  Since night terrors (and nightmares too) are created in the mind I simply placed drop of oil on each big toe.  Because of the little experience I had in foot reflexology I knew that the big toe corresponds to the brain…so I felt Joy would make his mind happy too…giving him happy dreams at night.

Within the first week on applying this essential oil blend to his big toe each night, the night terrors stopped.    I continued using it for a few weeks until I was able to stop altogether.   Every once in awhile the night terrors return, so I start my regimen again for a few days, and they generally stop right away.

…and we all slept soundly once again!

Cedarwood for Children’s Sleep Problems

Cedarwood is an essential oil that is known for its calming properties.  I’ve recently began using it for my son’s sleep issues.  He   is 2.5 years old and has always been a very restless sleeper.  He would toss and turn and moan all night, keeping me up as well.  Upon the recommendation of a good friend with an extensive knowledge of essential oils I began using  the Cedarwood each night.  I would simply massage 2 drops to the bottom of his feet before he went to bed.  Almost immediately his restlessness decreased and he has begun to  “sleep like a baby.”

I’m sharing this with you because and amazing thing happened last night.  After a very busy weekend I put my son to sleep, and in the middle of the night I heard the tossing and turning and moaning once again.  I went in his room to sleep next to him hoping to calm him down.  But he continued to toss and turn.  Needless to say I wasn’t sleeping at all.  Then about a hour later I remembered that I had never applied his Cedarwood.  I could not believe that I had forgotten something so important.  I immediately got up and applied the two drops of Cedarwood.  Almost instantly the restlessness stopped and he was once again “sleeping like a baby.”  We both slept wonderfully the rest of the night.

I share this with you today to let you know how safe and effective 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils can be.  I am completely comfortable applying essential oils on my 2.5 year old knowing that he won’t suffer from any side effects or have any unnecessary chemicals absorbed into his little body.  And knowing that our whole family will get a good night’s  sleep is priceless.

5 Essential Oils All Moms Should Never Be Without

Essential Oils have been around for centuries. In fact, they are considered man’s first medicine.  Today they are still used by many individuals as a natural source of health & healing.

To ensure you are getting the maximum benefit make sure you are using  100% pure therapeutic grade oil. Less than 2% of the oils which are sold commercially are therapeutic grade. These lesser oils, which you would find many at retail stores are considered perfume grade & have very little therapeutic benefit.

Here are 5 extremely beneficial oils that all moms should never be without.

1) Lavender Oil – Lavender is known as the Swiss army knife of oils, because of its multipurposed use.  It is most commonly used for allergies, eczema and for soothing skin irritations, bruises & minor burns. It has also been known to calm an irritable child, something many mothers are grateful for.  This wonderful oil is also highly regarded for skin care and beauty.

2) Lemon Oil – Lemon is a incredibly clean and refreshing oil.  It contains d-limonene which is a powerful antioxidant. Lemon oil has cleansing properties and may also affect immune function.  Its anti-viral properties make it an excellent source for fighting colds and reducing fevers.

As a side note, one incredible property of this oil is its ability to remove gum. I wish my mother would have carried this oil in her pocketbook when I was little.  LOL!! It is also a great tool to remove crayon from almost any surface, including suede coaches, something which I found to be very handy with a two year old child in my house.

Lemon is also a perfect oil to diffuse to give your home a clean fresh scent while also purifying the air.

3) Oregano Oil – This is one of my favorite oils.  It is highly anti-bacterial and, in my opinion, is an incredible substitute for antibiotics.  Oregano is wonderful for any bacterial or viral infection including colds and flues.

4) Peppermint - If you’ve read my last blog posting you’ll easily see why I love peppermint oil.  It is so beneficial for digestive issues and it has a cooling effect so it helps to bring down fever and relieve hot flashes.

Diffusing peppermint can help clear sinuses and may help soothe coughs.  Peppermint can also help soothe sore muscles and “growing pains.”    Some studies show that inhaling peppermint helped increase mental acuity of students.  So, if you want your child to get better grades it won’t hurt to have them inhale some peppermint beforehand.

5) Eucalyptus Oil – This is another oil I love.  In my opinion it is one of most beneficial oils for coughs and congestion.  When I use this oil in conjunction with Oregano and Lemon on my children they tend to get over their colds in record time.

Enjoy your oils and Happy Healing!

Natural Healing Remedies Using Peppermint Oil (Commentary)

If  you enjoy natural healing remedies, but you have not used peppermint essential oil yet, you are missing out! There are so many great benefits of this aromatic oil! Let’s start with energy. That magical thing that so many of us lack. The common solution to this is caffeine, and lots of it, to get us through the day. However, that has it’s cons, including those pesky jitters. Peppermint oil is a great alternative to this!

A few sniffs of peppermint oil can give you a nice boost of energy, as well as clearing your cluttered mind, which makes it a great choice when studying or working hard! You get a nice energy boost, free of those annoying jitters that come with caffeine overuse.

Another great use for the oil is to help clear up congestion. Since peppermint oil contains menthol, it’s an excellent choice for congestion due to colds, allergies, or sinus infections. There are a couple ways to do this. One way is to mix a few drops into hot water, and inhale. Another way is to mix a few drops with coconut oil and rub into your chest. Always mix with coconut oil or olive oil, as putting it on straight can irritate the skin, or even burn!

Peppermint oil can be an excellent diet aid! Alot of people swear that a few sniffs of it really helps to curb cravings!

If you have an ant problem, put a few drops onto a cotton ball, and place it where they gather. Ants detest peppermint oil! If you suffer from headaches, mix a drop or two with coconut oil or olive oil, and massage into the temples. This is an excellent, natural way to heal a headache!

Speaking of aches and pain, are digestive problems dragging you down? If so, try massaging the oil onto your stomach area. It’s very beneficial for any kind of digestive problem, from stomach pain, to nausea. As always, dilute with another oil first!

Is bad breath an issue for you? This humiliating problem can be cured by placing a drop of this oil onto your tongue. It freshens breath, and kills bacteria that causes it in the first place! You can’t get much better than that.

Placing a few drops into your bath is said to give a spa-like experience. Only a drop or two will do, otherwise it can make your water too cold. This would be a great bath for energy!

On a final note, the oil is great for fevers. Massage into the bottom of your feet to break a fever.

Essential Oil Mom’s Commentary: This article in my opinion is spot on about Peppermint Essential Oil.  I think that is one of the most versatile oils around and so beneficial for many health challenges as the author illustrates.   Wouldn’t it be great to have something like this  in your “medicine” chest?

I’ve used Peppermint Oil on myself and my children for just about all of the issued mentioned above.   My 7 yr. old son is lactose intolerant and if he has dairy he gets the worst stomach pains.  I simply dilute 2-3 drops of peppermint in a carrier oil and rub it on his stomach.  The pains go away almost instantly.   I’ve used it for digestive issues myself as well as headaches.  I’ve also experienced it’s cooling effects as it helped bring down my children’s fevers when rubbed on the bottoms of their feet.   Don’t you think it would feel wonderful to comfort your children and yourself with something so natural and soothing and help them feel better in the process?

One benefit of Peppermint Oil that the author did not mention is muscle soreness.  After a workout, dilute some peppermint and massage it into you muscles for soothing relief.  I’ve done it many times and it feel great!

But it is important to know that if you are using Peppermint or any Essential Oil for any health challenge,  please be sure that it is 100% pure therapeutic grade and FDA approved for ingestion and topical use as well as inhalation.  If you are not sure, simply call the company and ask them.

Enjoy your Peppermint!
